Join Josh Palumbo on a climb into Wintergreen’s past with a trip to the copper mines. This unique spot on the very steep east slope of Crawford’s Knob was an active mine in the late 1890s before being quickly abandoned. Not only are the mines unique but its location is also fascinating, located in a lovely depression along a creek bed acting as home to a variety of wildlife including deer, turkey and, of course, bats. This is a trip every Wintergreen resident must put on their “bucket list”. Rated difficult. Bring a flashlight, lunch and plenty of water. Payment due before event. Register in advance.
